Spinning, Dyeing and Handweaving Small's

Cheryl's Small's

As luck would have it I came across a tiny weave-it loom while out on one of my antiquing shopping trips.
I was so excited I could hardly wait to get home and try it out.

Out came the hand spun, hand dyed small balls of yarn I had saved.
I was sure I could find a good use for them eventually.

 The result was these earrings.
I had started to teach myself free motion embroidery ( not the easiest thing to learn) especially if your a neat nick.

So, applying all of my skills this was the end result.
A pair of hand spun, hand dyed, hand woven and stitched earrings.
I just love them. Hope you enjoy them to.

Hand spun Bracelets

Hand spun silk and camel hair. Hand knit in seed stitch.

 A set of three.

Beautiful Dragonfly

I came home the other day from walking Zoe and found this beautiful dragonfly greeting me at my front door.

Summer is going by quickly and I'm busy with knitting and spinning.

Hope all is going well for everyone.

Babies in the Garden

Baby Rabbits

Just wanted to share this wonder of nature. We have a resident mother rabbit that lives under our deck. Manford was working in the garden, planting things and came across a nest of baby rabbits in the middle of the garden.

I just love them. I hope they survive.

Still knitting working on thrummed mitts.

It's summer so I'm enjoying the warm weather, I hope you are too.

Spring time in the Neighbourhood

 Spring Time

I've been working on thrummed mitts. These are hand knit. Lovingly made with hand dyed yarns, green cuffs and Carmel coloured thrums. Using natural brown 2 ply Romney yarn from my girls. I'm building up stock for the fall. My work will be for sale this September in the Cambridge Centre for the Arts.

This robin has made a nest in my neighbour's garden. I took this picture on my walk with Zoe.

Quince bushes are in bloom.

 Magnolia's are in bloom.

Handspun Cuffs/Wrist Warmers

More uses for bits of Hand Spun Yarns.

These cuffs/wrist warmers remind me of clowns.

These are small bits of hand spun, hand dyed yarns, not really enough to make a large project. It's always a challenge to think of a good practical use for small bits of yarn, especially hand spun which is so precious to me. Here is another way to make good use of it.

These will probably end up in my shop at some point.

Right now all I can think about are the spring flowers that are coming into bloom.

Crocheted Baby Booties

Using up small amounts of Hand spun Yarn

As a hand spinner I always have various small balls of hand spun yarns laying around just begging to be made into something useful. These little darlings were made from hand dyed yarns using food colouring, and wool from my flock of sheep.
All are for sale in my Etsy shop.

SAORI COTH

Saori Cloth

Here it is, my first piece of Saori weaving. I was so excited about weaving it that I couldn't weave fast enough. The warp was a found warp at the Goodwill, cotton and I think it may be organic. I may have paid $ 2.00  for it, not much more. The bad part was the cross was not secure so I had to fiddle around to get it on the loom. It has some threading errors but that's the beauty of the found piece.

My loom and materials waiting to be woven into the weft.

And here's the beauty. This is the front.

This this the back.

I'm meeting next week with two new weaving friends for a  ' Kai ', Japanese word for gathering. We plan to discuss Saori weaving and show each other our work.
I"m planning to make a piece of clothing from my piece so maybe they'll have some good ideas.
I'll keep you posted.

In love with Saori Weaving

Saori Weaving

Bracelets

I've found Saori weaving and I love it.

Misao Jo founded Saori weaving in Japan when she was 57 years old.

It's weaving from the heart, total freedom to do what you want. Mistakes are just expressions of the soul . I decided to weave some bracelets to start with and now have a large weaving of material on the loom. I'm planning to make an article of clothing when I'm done.

Kidsilk Yarn

This is kidsilk yarn, one ball. I've added some small glass beads and sequins.

Hempwol Scarf

Hempwol , also one ball with glass beads and bobbles.

The year is off to a good start. Stay warm.

A New Camera

New Camera

Hi friends I hope everyone had a nice holiday season, and things are getting off to a good start in the new year.

Here in Ontario we've had some terrible winter weather. Today is nice and sunny and things have calmed down.

I received a new camera for Christmas and I've been busy taking pictures. It's a Nikon Cool pix. Anything electronic like computers and cameras are a challenge for me, but I try my best and some how manage to do what I need to do.

Here are some of my pictures. Some of these items have made it to my etsy shop and I will be adding more items soon.

Pretty Stitch markers

Scarf/Cowl neck warmers.

Purses

and Cuffs.
